Holistic Addiction Recovery Therapies at Haven
Group Work
Developing a sense of community is integral to the healing process. Small group sessions at Haven at Blue Creek allow participants to learn to support others as well as to receive support, open them up to the perspectives of others, and understand addiction as a shared experience. Many people build bonds in group sessions that extend well beyond their stay and are central to their ongoing recovery.
Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction encourages residents to explore their beliefs, values, and the role of spirituality in their healing. This process is not tied to any specific religion but is tailored to each individual’s needs and understanding, promoting inclusivity and respect. By cultivating a sense of connection, whether to a higher power, nature, or the community, spiritual direction helps foster inner peace, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose—essential elements for long-term recovery. It empowers residents to find strength in their faith or spirituality.
One-on-One Therapy
This one-on-one approach allows therapy to be highly personalized, focusing on each resident's unique challenges, goals, and strengths. Therapists employ evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help individuals identify and reframe negative thought patterns, build healthier coping strategies, and develop emotional resilience.
Art
Through artistic expression, participants at Haven at Blue Creek can understand and respond to their experiences in new ways. This can help increase self-awareness and enhance coping skills. Art Therapy has been found to be beneficial in improving self-esteem and self-expression, as well as managing addiction. Used as a complement to a 12-step recovery program, studies have shown that art and music therapy improve outcomes – particularly for women. At Haven at Blue Creek, we seek to help clients find their voice, whatever form that may take.
Music Therapy
We partner with ECU School of Music to offer Music Therapy, bringing this meaningful, experiential service into our program. Through guided musical experiences, residents are able to express emotions, build self-awareness, and develop healthy coping skills in a safe and supportive environment. This approach supports healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction in a powerful and accessible way.
Yoga and Exercise
We offer Yoga and Exercise as part of our program, integrating movement, mindfulness, and physical wellness into the recovery process. Through yoga and intentional exercise, residents are able to reconnect with their bodies, reduce stress, and build emotional regulation in a grounded and sustainable way. This approach supports healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use, while strengthening overall physical health. Mindfulness and meditation work hand-in-hand with our recovery philosophy, helping women develop a deeper sense of balance, awareness, and connection.
